CM Mamata mourns Mani Sankar Mukherjee’s demise, calls it ‘irreparable loss’

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed deep sorrow over the passing of eminent Bengali litterateur Mani Sankar Mukherjee, popularly known as Sankar. In a message shared on social media, she described his death as the fall of “a bright star of the Bengali literary world” and termed it an irreparable loss to the state’s cultural sphere.

Recalling his literary contributions, Banerjee highlighted some of his most celebrated works, including Chowringhee, Kato Ajanare, Seemabaddha and Jana Aranya. She noted that his timeless creations captivated generations of Bengali readers and brought to light the untold struggles of ordinary people through powerful storytelling.

The Chief Minister also referred to his extensive research and writings on Swami Vivekananda, calling them invaluable treasures. Extending her condolences to his family and admirers, Banerjee said his legacy would continue to inspire readers and enrich Bengal’s literary heritage.
